Written for and premiered by Chatfield High School's "Charisma" under the direction of Josh Jackson, for their 2017 CMEA performance. Premiered on January 25th at Lakewood United Methodist Church in Lakewood, CO.

The Story

​

Josh has always been a great friend, and avid supporter of my music. When he announced that his choir was accepted to perform at the Colorado Music Educator's of America  (CMEA) conference, I jokingly posted on his social media page "Let me know if you need a piece!" Josh actually liked the idea, and we were "in cahoots" from there. 

​

After some time, Josh sent me his set list for the conference at my request. I listened to all of the amazing works that Josh had programmed to try to get a feel for what kind of piece would work best for this performance. About this time, I had become frustrated with many of the aspects of social media and the dominance it tends to have over a majority of our lives. The combination of these two events, my frustration and a setlist full of challenging and serious music, led me to the conclusion that I should write a "guised rant" in the form of a funny piece for this talented group. Thus, "#SocialMedia" came to life.
